Unsightly Veins

Unsightly thread veins, also referred to as vascular lesions, are common among men and women and can be embarrassing. They can appear on the skin as dots, bulges, splotches and spider shapes. They can range in colour from red to purple to brown.

Thread veins are different to varicose veins, which are much larger and can be felt on the skin. Varicose raise concerns as they represent an underlying problems with the veins and can lead to additional disorders such as Eczema and pigmentation. In comparison, thread veins are not seen as a medical problem but more of a cosmetic issue.


The cause of thread veins can be down to a combination of the following factors:

  • Genes
  • Chronic sun exposure
  • Ageing
  • Hormones
  • Alcohol consumption
